The comeback of the Tutima brand

Anything that is to be trusted by pilots and top athletes in extreme situations has to include one thing above all: confidence in itself. This key policy of all successful entrepreneurs, combined with the untiring creativity of Dr. Ernst Kurtz, was a crucial element for the Tutima brand's brilliant comeback.

When it came to christening his ébauche factory in Ganderkesee in 1959, Dr. Ernst Kurtz opted for Urofa, the name of the factory he had founded so many years before. The next generation of watchmakers trained according to the strict Glashütte standards had also meanwhile come of age. Under the name Nurofa — Norddeutsche Uhren-Rohwerkefabrik — the company succeeded in manufacturing a remarkable number of Caliber 570 ébauches alone in the years 1958-1959: round about 70,000 pieces.

The company “Tutima Uhren” was set up with the express goal of marketing the watches housing this movement, which were sold exclusively under the brand name “Glashütter Tradition”. Thus, the famous name of Tutima with its longstanding tradition celebrated its comeback in Lower Saxony, a triumphant return that has continued right up to the present day.

A young entrepreneur and former member of Tutima founder Dr. Ernst Kurtz's team went on to write the next chapter of Tutima’s success story: Dieter Delecate. After taking over the sales division, he began producing the first watches to once again feature the Tutima logo on the dial.

With his far-sighted decision to found the company Tutima Uhrenfabrik GmbH, Dieter Delecate paved the way for the future. Tutima has meanwhile evolved into a global group of companies.
